Italian Lambrusco since 1860
Cleto Chiarli is the oldest winery in Emilia-Romagna: a five-generation story that began in Modena in 1860. Since then the Chiarli family has helped make Lambrusco known in Italy and abroad, working with the two most representative varieties of the territory, Lambrusco di Sorbara and Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro.
International recognition
Cleto Chiarli wines are regularly awarded by the most authoritative international critics. Vecchia Modena, a dry Lambrusco di Sorbara, scored 94 points from Wine Enthusiast and was named World Champion Sparkling Red at the Champagne & Sparkling Wine World Championships; the same World Champion Red Sparkling Wine title went to the Grasparossa Vigneto Cialdini.
Other accolades include Metodo del Fondatore rated 92 points by Vinous, Vecchia Modena Noir awarded 93 points (Best Buy) by Wine Enthusiast, Gambero Rosso's Tre Bicchieri for Vigneto Cialdini, and gold for Quintopasso Rosé 2017 at WOW! The Italian Wine Competition 2025.
An international presence
Cleto Chiarli's international profile also runs through events: the winery returned to Paris for Wine Paris, 126 years after taking part in the 1900 Exposition Universelle, and presented its wines in New York through Vinous, one of the leading wine-criticism platforms in the United States and a reference point for importers and professionals.
These occasions confirm the growing interest of international markets in fine Lambrusco and Italian red sparkling wines.
The ambassador wines
Representing the winery around the world are above all Vecchia Modena, the dry Sorbara that rewrote the perception of Lambrusco; the Vigneto Cialdini cru, the reference expression of Grasparossa; and the Quintopasso project, which interprets Sorbara in the traditional method with long ageing.
All are made from 100% estate-grown grapes, in the historic areas of Sorbara and Castelvetro, in the province of Modena.
Among the Custodians of Lambrusco
Cleto Chiarli is a founding member of the "Custodi del Lambrusco" association, born from the initiative of Emilian producers united in their commitment to protect, enhance and reposition Lambrusco on the national and international wine scene. A collective effort that strengthens the image of fine Lambrusco worldwide.
