Cookies are small text files that the sites visited by the user send to and register on the user's computer or mobile device, to be retransmitted to the same sites on the next visit. Thanks to cookies, the site remembers the user's actions and preferences (such as login data, preferred language, font size, other display settings, etc.) so that they do not have to be re-entered when the user returns to visit the same site or navigates from one page to another.
Cookies are therefore used to perform computer authentications, session monitoring and storage of information regarding the activities of users accessing a site, and may also contain a unique identification code that allows the user's navigation within the site to be tracked for statistical or advertising purposes.
While browsing a site, the user may receive cookies on their computer or mobile device also from sites or web servers other than the one being visited (so-called "third-party" cookies). Some operations could not be carried out without the use of cookies, which in some cases are technically necessary for the operation of the site itself.
There are various types of cookies, depending on their characteristics and functions, and they may remain on the user's computer or mobile device for different periods: so-called session cookies, which are automatically deleted when the browser is closed, and persistent cookies, which remain on the user's device until a predetermined expiry.
Under current Italian law, the user's express consent is not always required to use cookies. In particular, so-called technical cookies do not require such consent — that is, those used for the sole purpose of carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communications network, or to the extent strictly necessary to provide a service explicitly requested by the user. In other words, these cookies are indispensable for the operation of the site or necessary to perform activities requested by the user.
Among the technical cookies that do not require express consent, the Italian Data Protection Authority (see General Provision "Identification of simplified methods for the information notice and the acquisition of consent for the use of cookies" — 8 May 2014) also includes analytics cookies, where used directly by the site operator to collect aggregate information on the number of users and how they visit the site.
For so-called profiling cookies — those aimed at creating user profiles and used to send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user while browsing the web — prior consent is required.
This website does not use profiling cookies. In particular, this site uses:
Among analytics cookies, we highlight Google Analytics cookies, a web data analysis service provided by Google Inc. ("Google"). These cookies enable the operation of Google Analytics and help the site operator analyse site activity, such as the number of visitors, browsing patterns, services used, average time spent and other data that help us improve content usability.
If anonymous IP is activated on this website, your IP address will first be truncated by Google in the EU Member States or other States party to the European Economic Area Agreement. Only in exceptional cases the full IP address is sent to a Google server in the USA and truncated there. Anonymous IP is active on this site. On behalf of the site operator, Google uses the information to examine your use of the site, compile activity reports for the site operator and provide other services relating to site activity and internet use.
The IP address transmitted by Google within Google Analytics will not be linked to any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate setting in your browser, though this may prevent you from using all features of this website. You may also prevent Google from collecting and processing the data generated by the cookie by installing the browser add-on available at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
The information obtained through cookies is not used to identify users. Cookies are not used for purposes other than those described above.
Below, the user can make a choice and specifically indicate which cookies to install. The user's preferences regarding cookies will need to be reset if different devices or browsers are used to access the site. Technical cookies do not require prior consent from the user for their use.
Modification or confirmation of the preferences expressed on the use of cookies can be made at any time by accessing this page through the dedicated link at the bottom of the website. In addition to this procedure, the user can authorise, block or delete (in whole or in part) cookies also through the specific functions of their browser. If all or some cookies are disabled, the site may become unusable or some services or features may not be available or may not function correctly, and the user may be forced to manually change or enter some information or preferences each time they visit the site.
More information and details on the various types of cookies, how they work and their characteristics can be found on AllAboutCookies.
