Honest Measures: Wine, Law and Trust in the Este Duchy.What lies behind the antique glassware, historic bottles and old units of measure in the Galleria Chiarli?

For centuries, the serving of wine in the taverns of the Este Duchy was strictly controlled. Counterfeiters faced severe punishment, and clever inspection systems were devised to protect patrons.

To explore these and other stories of history, customs and viticulture, the second edition of "Laetificat Corda – Eventi in Galleria" presents a talk titled "A Journey Through Wine Measures, from the Este Dukes to Modern Italy."

The event takes place on Saturday, 3 October 2026 at 10:30 am at Tenuta Cialdini in Castelvetro di Modena. Dr Lia Apparuti, curator of the Museo della Bilancia (Scale Museum) in Campogalliano, will guide the audience through historical metrology and the evolution of wine vessels. Elisabetta Barbolini Ferrari will introduce the talk.

It's a rare chance to see how the region's great wine tradition, from Lambrusco to its finest labels, grew out of a rich cultural and manufacturing heritage.
